My Cactus Is Blooming

One of my dear friends gave me a cactus for a house warming gift in March. Probably a good idea since I tend to kill plants. I've been ignoring it except for small drinks of water on Friday mornings. So you can imagine my surprise when I looked at last night and saw this beautiful flower on it last night. I didn't know that cacti had flowers! Maybe I have a hidden green thumb for cacti. Maybe I should buy a couple more? Perhaps, but not today.

On a quilty note someone from one of my Yahoo groups sent me this adorable little cushion. This was a wonderful little surprise and put a smile on my face today.
I hope everyone is enjoying their day today!

Mine is blooming too. In the same color. Maybe we have the "Easter" cactus instead of the "Christmas" cactus. But I think it has more to do with watering and the amount of darkness.

It's pretty sight on the Texas panhandle prairie to see cactus in bloom a few days after a good rain.

I'm glad you are enjoying your cactus flowers. Very pretty.

Oh yes, cactus have beautiful flowers! However that one is a Christmas cactus and isn't the same as a cactus that grows in the desert. It can go for quite awhile without water, but needs much more water than desert cactus do. This one is more of a tropical cactus and I'm told grows on trees. I do know in order to get repeat bloomings you should stop watering it about the beginning of September, let it get really dry and somewhat wilty looking, and then start watering it again in mid October. This will cause lovely blooms to set - often twice a year.

what a pretty cactus. Mine didn't bloom this year :(
But I did mark my calendar to stop watering like Patti said and see if that works
hope you're continuing to feel better
