First Photo, Sewing and Election Night Challenge

It's the 2nd of the month and I have to post my first of the month photos. Here's the view from the right side of my deck. The parking lot at the bottom of the hill is starting to show through the empty branches.
The mill building is very visible now. The leaves are falling fast around us. By next month I bet the trees will be bare.
DIL and I spent time sewing today. DH came into the studio and took this photo of DIL sewing away. We tag teamed on a baby quilt. I cut the pieces. She sewed. I ironed and pinned.
Here is the completed baby quilt. We used one of the baby fabrics I bought while in MN.
A quilter on one of my Yahoo groups asked if anyone is doing an Election Night Challenge. My brain immediately clicked into high gear and thought what a great idea! So I'm issuing an Election Night Challenge. I don’t want to get bogged down with lots of rules about the challenge so I’ll keep it simple.

The completed project should have at least 51 blocks. The blocks can be as simple or as complicated as you like. Each one needs to “read” red or blue. There should be one block for every state that votes red (Republican) and one block for every state that votes blue (Democrat).

The project should be done by November 30, 2008. If you'd like to join in the fun, let me know and blog about it. The more, the merrier. On December 1 I'll post photos of all the completed projects and host a poll to pick the favorite. I'll award a prize for the project with the most votes and pick a winner from those who vote as well.

I've already chosen my fabrics and here they are. I wonder what I'll make . . .
Don't forget to vote on Tuesday!
Sweet P

Even in Australia we are interested in the outcome of your election! I won't take part in the Challenge, ut really look forward to reading all about it!

Count me in!

I am a left coaster so no jump for me ... I am sure by Wednesday we will have a complete list tho! Maybe I can get parts of the list as the east coast counts, but I think we will have limited info until all the polls close.

Additionally ... I will need to look for 'good' reds and blues in my stash. Can I mix in white for spacers?

OH gosh, sounds like so much fun. If I were home I would join in.

So nice that your DIL came over to sew. The trees around us look like that too. Have fun with the election challenge.

I sure hope I get a DIL that likes to sew....Of course the Rock Star is only 16 so I have some wait time...(I HOPE!!)

Love the baby quilt....

Interesting challenge - & It's not like I don't have a red & blue quilt started... (I doubt that I planned for 51 blocks though...)

How refreshing to see that pretty young woman sewing away!

I might be sewing Tuesday evening - gotta do something but NOT the challenge. I have enough CHALLENGE to not go crazy over this political unpleasantness! I have a project in mind, maybe it will keep my mind busy, and NOT in an argumentative state of mind.

If successful, I'll post it. 8-)

WOW, this sounds like fun. I will be teaching a class on making Service Star Banners from 6-8, but then I might make some red/blue blocks after that.

I may give this a shot, but I haven't learned how to make my camera talk to my computer yet so can't promise any photos. I belong to Stashbuster's, too. Isn't that a great group?

Ilove this idea for a challenge based on the number of red and blue states. What a clever idea. It will make it even more interesting to watch the results tonight. I voted already and it felt great!

I never thought of an election night challenge. neat idea. I think I'll decide on what I want to do during these next four years since I hate to rush into things.... I dont' know which is cuter, your DIL or the baby quilt. good job!!!

What a fun idea! I fear that I might be to partisan to go state by state like this, but it looks like a fantastic project. :)
