Miscellaneous Monday Musings

Here it is Monday. The start of my weekend and the last week before Christmas. DH and I are done with Christmas shopping. All that's left is to wrap the gifts.

A few Monday thoughts . . .
  1. I loved the old Bloglines. I do not like the new Bloglines run by Merchant Circle. The font is light and hard to read. I can't figure out how to organize my feeds. Plus I lost all the posts I had marked as unread to I could go back to them and leave comments or get the pattern or recipes I wanted to keep. I'm not happy at all.
  2. I'm not a fan of Google Reader either. It's a little better than Bloglines. I don't like having to star items to mark them as an entry I want to go back to at some point.
  3. What RSS readers do you use other than Bloglines or Google Reader?
  4. I need snow for Christmas. I was ready for a snowy winter day today while sewing. But alas, the storm stayed south of us.
  5. I finished Mr. Sparkles last night. He is a Secret Santa gift for a co-worker. I think he's adorable.
Have a great Christmas week. I have to work Wed., Thurs., and Fri. Then I am off for four days. Hooray!

Sweet P

Mr Sparkles is mighty cute. I use Google Reader so can't help you with that one. Hope you get your snow.

No snow here either - even though we are south of you, we are too far west. Color me disappointed - if I can't have a San Diego Christmas, then I really want a white one *s*

I use Google reader - I know you asked for 'others' but . . . . I made the switch a long while ago just to test the waters. I felt that Bloglines was slow in updating posts. It took a bit, but I've grown accustomed to it. After accidentally marking all of posts as read a few times I worked out a system. As for making entries to return to, I made up bookmark folder with labels for various subjects to keep track of the posts. A little work, but organized just the way I like it *s*

Paula, I'm with you! I loved Bloglines! I was so sad when I heard they were going away and then excited when MerchantCircle said they'd keep it up. Then even more disappointed when I saw the "new" bloglines. You're right, Google Reader is a bit better, but I guess it's what I'll use unless someone leads me to something better. I haven't found anything! I'll be monitoring your comments to see!

This new version of Blogliens is awful. I lost a lot of my blog subscriptions in the changeover and had to spend all morning adding a bunch manually. I don't even know how many subscriptions I have now - it doesn't show anywhere. When adding a new blog I can't specify which folder it goes in. My clippings have disappeared without warning. If you mark an article to Read Later, that folder doesn't show that you have any items in it - it should show a number, or at least BOLD the folder title so we know there are items in it. I'd change over to Google Reader but I don't like it either, because it doesn't have the features that Bloglines USED to have. I may learn to deal with it now as I think it would be preferable to this new and "improved" *cough* Bloglines. PATOOIE!!!

We have snow for Christmas and frankly, I could do without, LOL. Mr. Sparkles is a cutie!

Yep, I loved the old Bloglines, too. When they announced they were closing, I switched to Google Reader. Didn't bother going back to check out the new Bloglines, from everything I've heard I'm glad I didn't. Sorry I can't suggest anything else, for now I'm sticking with Reader, and the stars...

Paula, I feel your frustration! When I heard that Merchant Circle was taking over Bloglines, I was thrilled. However, now that the deed is done, I could scream. I think less than 100 of my 430 some feeds transferred over. Great time of year to mess things up, too. I don't have time right now to add over 300 feeds one at a time. I can't find a way to list the feeds in alphabetical order. The whole thing stinks. :-) Merry Christmas.
