It's October!

And I am so happy! Why? you ask. First, it's my birthday month (next Wednesday if you really want to know). Second. I love fall colors. Third, my Red Sox will start playing in the playoffs tonight. Finally , I joined the "Fall Into Fall Quilter's Blog Giveaway".

I had a hard time deciding what to give away for the drawing. Should I buy something? Should I make something? Should I include chocolate? What else could I do?

After a lot of thought and nibbling a few of these:

This is what I decided to do: Leave a comment for this entry. In your comments tell me what your favorite season is, your favorite colors and your least favorite part of making a quilt. You do not need a blog, but I must have a way to e-mail you if you win.

On October 15th I will put all the names in a bowl (not mixed with the pumpkins) and pick one. Based on the answers I will design a set of quilty items for you to use while you are working on your least favorite part of making a quilt. I want to help you enjoy the entire quilt process. After all, don't we quilt to have fun???

Since it is the first of the month here are the photos from my deck. The leaves on some of the trees are changing colors. There are still several trees that are green. I'm sure I'll be enjoying a close up view of the changing colors for several more days.

Look really, really hard . . . can you see the vibrant red leaves in the middle of the photo? These leaves have been peaking through the green for a few days. I hope all the trees look like that soon!
I'm still working on my Stitcher's Angel projects. I hope to have some photos soon!

Go Red Sox!
Sweet P

Ok...I'd love to be in your drawing. My favorite season is Fall, my favorite color right now is red, and the part I like least in making a quilt is the basting. I suppose it's because I still baste with needle and thread. Maybe I should switch to pin basting??

My favorite season is fall, and my favorite color is rustic brown. My least favorite part of the quilt is the binding, I have diffictly every time I try to join the ends.

Fall is my favorite season, too. Love the smell of the fires in the evening and the coolness after hot winters! I think that my least favorite part of making a quilt is deciding what to work on. I have so many that I want to do and I can't make a decision of what to work on first!

Hi Paula, Yes, I am excited too! Getting ready to watch the RED SOX ...Go Sox! My favorite season is Spring, because there is new life and everything is green and blooming!! I just love it! My favorite color is pink and all shades of it especially HOT Pink. I really don't have a least favorite part of quilting... weird, I know. But if I had to pick one, I guess it would be putting the label on the quilt.

My favorite season is also Fall and thus my favorite color is orange (second is yellow). I love quilting but the binding is the part I love the least.

I love seasonal changes - live in MN - so least favorite is a cold winter - but like snow, favorite season is spring...the promise of new life in the plants, trees, animals. Gosh, I love all things quilting, but I quandry on picking colors sometimes - value and such, I can agonize for days until I put it together. Love your picture of the tree - I have a maple in the backyard off my deck - same thing, one little splotch of red amongst the green leaves. Thank you for the opportunity. My favorite season is fall as here in Texas, the cooler and less humid days are such a welcome relief after blazing summers. And I Iove pumpkins in every shape and form! Favorite colors are the pink family and the red family. And I have the stash to prove it! Least favorite part of quilt making is putting on the borders. Every time I get to that part, I always put it aside for a while. Recently I had 3 tops needing borders so one day I told myself if I would just change my attitude it might help.....and it did for that day and they are completed and at the quilter! quiltinggranna

Fall is my favorite season. I love the way the sky looks. It seems brighter that at any other time. I love the shadows created by the sun at this time of the year. Fall colors are my favorite. Most of the quilts I make are in this color range. It suits my mood most of the time. I also love to roast hotdogs on a fire. Nothing better than a roasted dog!! My least favorite part of quilt making is cutting the fabric. I hate cutting the fabric but once I get that part done I am ready to go.

Fall is my favorite season definitely! But my favorite colors aren't really fall at all - I love sunshine yellow and turkey red together (that's my bedroom) and navy, burgundy, dark green and cream together (that's my living room) and sunshine yellow and blue, with a touch of red (that's my kitchen). Got more than you asked for I bet! I love quilting but my least favorite part is the measuring and cutting. blessings, marlene

Fall is definitely my favorite season. I decorate a lot with greens, so I guess green is my favorite color. My least favorite part of making a quilt is putting the three layers together. It's just so cumbersome. If my arms were about 6 feet long I think it might be easier. And I think binding is no picnic either. That blind stitch is a killer. But I do it anyway!

My favorite season is Fall. I have way too many favorite colors! LOL Deep Dark Orange would have to be my pick if I was forced at gunpoint to decide! LOL My least favorite part of quilting is the actual quilting of the top/bottom/filler together. I love everything about chosing the fabric, sewing it together, even binding it, but... ugh! when it comes to quilting it all together.
thank you for hosting a fall giveaway!

I see my answers are just like Paula's. Fall is my favorite season by far. My favorite color is red - though I adore fall colors. And my least favorite part of quilting is/was basting. It's not that bad now that I have a longarm. So maybe I should change that answer just a little. How about my least favorite part is marking a quilt for quilting - no matter how I'm quilting it - by hand or by machine. Thanks for entering my name in the drawing!

I'd love to enter your giveaway, thank you!! My favorite season is fall - crisp cool air, leaves turning and falling, and PUMPKIN PIE! That's probably why I've been working on smaller projects lately!

Happy Birthday, Paula! My birthday is just a few days after yours (Next Friday).

My favorite season is Spring because it means that Winter is over! And I love all the flowers, the budding trees, the smell of the grass growing, etc.

My favorite color is purple, but anything bright is just as good for me!

As to my least favorite part of quiting, I think it is getting all the pieces cut out so that I can start sewing. Once I decide what I am going to do, I just want to get sewing! All that prep work like cutting seems to drag on!

My favorite season is Fall, however in the spring i love spring! lol I love the rustic colors of fall.
The thing i like least about quilting...well, i have very limited space and it is a task to do things like pinning the layers and quilting the quilt. I don't mind cutting, but difficult with a small workspace.

First of all, happy birthday! Hope your day next week will be wonderful! My favorite season is spring, because everything turns green again after a long, dull winter. I guess my least favorite part of quilting is cutting the fabric. Thank you! :0)

Right now, I'd have to say my favorite season is autumn (isn't that a pretty word?). My favorite color(s) probably date my to being a child of the 60s, but I love orange and olive green. Least favorite part of quilting? It's a tie between sewing the blocks together and doing the borders. I love everything before and after those parts!

Hi! I've discovered blogs(about time isn't it?)! I'm not sure you can design time - but that is the thing I like least about quilting (finding more time). Ok, this one's easy. My favorite season...baseball season of course. My son and I were at the Angels, Red Sox game and I must say your team played brilliantly. Thank you for the fun give away. Sorry about this but...Go Angels.

My favorite season is fall, but it is not long enough! I love Thanksgiving time when all the relatives gather and it's nice and cozy inside! My favorite colors are some of the new funky ones we are now seeing a lot of. My least part of making a quilt ... having to pay the money to do it!

Fall is my favorite season for sure so I'm in hog heaven right now! My favorite colors are navy blue, turquoise and fuchsia but I've never thought of putting them into a quilt. I tend to go with subtler or more earthy colors. What's my problem? As for the headaches of quilting, the binding ticks me off every time.

Fall is my favorite season. I was born and raised in Michigan and I wish and wish and wish again that I was back in Michigan...in October! I married a wonderful Aussie man and now tropical Queensland is my home. Oh, how I miss the Fall...the colors, the cider, the donuts, the apple dumplings...hay rides...pumpkins...trick-or-treat...cooler weather. You get the picture. I'm still adjusting to October being a Spring month! So weird!!!

I love the fiery reds, oranges, and yellows that blaze on the Autumn horizon. Thankfully, the tree in our front yard loses its leaves, they change color, too. However, this happens in June! When it is Fall here! Still odd to me. It's going to take me a long time to get used to these opposite seasons!

I do enjoy quilting. I'm working on one for my nephew in Michigan now. I'm quilting by hand. My favorite way to quilt. My least favorite thing about quilting is lining it all up and finishing it off...with batting, etc...sometimes that is hard. Wish I had a quilting loom! Maybe one day! :)

Have A Happy Day!

Hi Paula,
I wish I had been aware of the fall give away. I was so busy in Sept with company and then out of town I missed the announcement. My favorite season is spring. I love the little flowers popping out of the ground just to brighten our day. My favorite color?????? I love them all. Usually it is yellow, but right now I am into the 1800's mauvy browns. The hardest thing for me when quilting is the binding. I have several quilts finished except for the binding. The sad part is one is already sewn to the quilt and partially hand sewn down. The corners are already mitered, so I can't use that as an excuse. The actual reason it isn't done is the fabric I had to use for the binding is difficult to hand sew, but the color is a perfect match!

What a thoughtful and generous giveaway!! I have a hard time choosing between fall and spring, but fall has all those wonderful smells and colors. . .and the fabulous stitchy/crafty designs make my head swoon. The only quilt I have ever made was a hand quilted baby quilt. I remember sticking myself and bleeding on the quilt - ooops. I am mostly a stitcher (cross stitch/hardanger), but I would like to start incorporating my stitching into more quilt-type projects. I would have to say my least favorite part would probably be the foundation work like all the cutting. The buying (oh, the buying) of the fabric would be the best part!! Wishing you a happy anniversary!

MY favorite season is fall and colours would be all the fall colours...the burnt reds, pumpkin oranges and browns.
My least favourite part of doing a quilt is the basting and the quilting, mostly because of my limited space and quilting abilities.
Please include me in your lovely draw.

Spring is my favorite with the new life and flowers popping up! I love pink, my favorite. And I dislike machine quilting the quilt! Because I am bad at it!!But I love hand quilting...

My favorite season is fall because I love the fall smells and colors AND because my birthday falls within the season (October 6th). I have lots of favorite colors but I tend to be drawn to pinks and purples and lately blue. Least favorite thing about quilting... nothing so far! I've only done small projects and I really enjoy them. Binding a large quilt is very intimidating to me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!

My favourite season is winter, I love all the build up to Christmas. And the worst part of making a quilt is sewing the final stitch then thinking aaaggghhhh, I have to find a whole new project now (or choose which unfinished project to drag back out from the back of the cupboard !!!)

I had to laugh when I saw your bowl of candy! I just posted on a different sight that my favorite halloween candy was those pumpkins.
My favorite time of year is Summer!
I love the warm weather and the heat of the sun on my face. I love going to the beach for vacation, laying in the sand and playing in the warm water of the ocean.
My least favorite part of quilting is laying out the final design and doing borders. I am just not very good at it yet, that is why I don`t like it. :)

I love the summer - hot temps, beach, flower gardens. My favorite colors are pinks, yellows, greens. I least favorite part of qilting is the binding.

My favorite season is Fall. My favorite colors are all the colors the leaves on my trees change to...from yellow, to burnt orange to that vibrant red, and then even to brown. I love it! I was reading through the other comments and isn't it strange how just about everyone hates the binding part. I also hate to do the binding. I am a beginner so maybe I am just not doing it right. I'd love to sit down with an experienced quilter and watch them do it just once! I also don't like the cutting process. I'm probably not doing it right either, who knows. I am a beginner and self taught with help from you tube videos.

I'd love to be in your drawing. Here are my answers:
Autumn is my favorite season--nothing beats it for color, clothes or activities! My favorite colors flow from my love of fall--deep reds, burnt oranges, dusky tans and shades of green. If I had to pick one, I'd go with red. My least favorite part of quilting is borders. I hate putting just a plain strip of fabric on for a border, but I often run out of creative juice by the time I reach that stage.

Thank you!!

How sweet! My favorite season is fall. The colors, the smells, the crisp air. My favorite colors are actually blue and yellow, which is not really fall-ish, but they always look so happy together in a quilt. I guess the my lease favorite part of making a quilt is the binding. Not that I hate it, but it's just not as much fun as making the blocks. Thanks for including me in your drawing.

I think Fall would be my favorite season (although it's a hard choice). My favorite colours are blue (any shade) and chocolate brown. My least favorite part of quilting would definitely be basting (or creating the sandwich).

My favorite season is fall with winter/Christmas as a close second!
I love all the fall colors mixed together and winter/Christmas I love light blue with sparkles in it!
Hmmm....what I don't like about quilting....anything that has to be hand sewn. If I can run it through the sewing machine I am a much happier camper!;)

Okay...unlike many of the other comments, my favorite season is spring when all the pretty flowers and plants "wake up" from the cold winter and the colors are so pretty. Also unlike many others, I don't mind the binding. The quilting is what I like least because I'm not very good at it and can't afford to often send my items out to be quilted FOR me. So...I struggle and stress when it comes time to quilt my finished tops. *sigh* PAT

Hello!

My favorite season is spring.
My favorite colors is apple green.

I love making quilts! Hmmm what would my least favorite part be? I guess that would have to be basting the quilt to get it ready for quilting. (It's much easier to just take it to my good friend, the longarm quilter!).

What a great giveaway!

My favorite season is fall. I love the cooler air after the looong hot FL summer.

My favorite colors are burgandy, reds, browns, greens for a quilt.

I'm a very new quilter - working on my first one - and the thing I'm finding difficult is putting colors AND patterns together. I don't have a sense of scale or what colors go together yet. I can pick 2 or 3 but there just seem to be SO many choices!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for entering me in your drawing!
My favorite colors for fall are reds, purples, and browns.

I'm a new quilter- meausuring and cutting the exact correct shapes is quite difficult right now!

My favorite season is winter now that we spend the winter in Florida! My favorite colors are blue and yellow. My LEAST favorite part of making a quilt is the sandwiching - which explains why I take my bed-size tops to a friend who long-arm quilts them!

My favorite season is spring - I love watching the green slowly spread everywhere. My favorite color is pink, and I absolutely hate pin basting the "sandwich" together and mitering corners on borders. I really should just make a straight edge, but I think it looks so much better to have mitered corners...

thanks for the surprise giveaway!

Autumn--I love the Chocolate Browns, Deep Oranges and Rich Reds. My least favorite part of quilting is hand stitching the binding, I always just want it to be done by that point!

What a cool giveaway. My favorite Season is Fall, my anniversary is on Halloween and I love thanksgiving. My favorite colors are Black, Red, Purple, and Silver. What a fun giveaway...I hope I win!

I love fall because it has awesome colors. I love the reds, oranges and greens. I am a big fan of apples and apple picking and homemade apple pie.

I think that the worst part of quilting has to be binding the quilt. The hand sewing part always makes me not want to finish. But my favorite part of quilting is picking fabrics and putting them together to create something beautiful.

Happy Fall! (lyannab at gmail dot com)

These questions are hard! I think fall is my favorite, though I love snow and the change of seasons from winter to spring and summer to fall.

My favorite colors seem to vary but purple and orange both rank up near the top.

It's hard for me to come up with a least favorite, but I guess that would have to be basting. I try to baste more than one at a time, while watching movies and having a nice beverage. That way I'm making good use of having my table all cleared off, and I can work my way through the basted quilts before having to do it again.

A fun tip...make your binding when you make the top and hang it on hanger. I can fit the binding for several tops on one hanger and there is no danger of accidentally using your binding fabric in another project! I also get inspired by seeing that binding there, reminding me of the quilts I have to finish.

Happy Birthday! I have an October birthday also. I would have to say that Fall is probably my favorite season since it finally gets under 100 degrees here by the end of October :) My least favorite part of quilting is the actual quilting process. I just am not great at it and it is alot of work.

Hmmm... favorite season I would have to say spring as it is a time of renewal. Favorite color is yellow. Like a lot of the bright colors and autumn colors.. lol can you tell that all them can be pretty according to what you do with them. =] I think because I am a beginning quilter that mostly teaching myself that squaring up the quilt and laying the layers is my hardest part. Wasn't till I was doing the large quilt for my son that learned didn't want all the layers the same size. Still working on it lol. I like that there is so much you can do because each quilt is your own... the good the bad and the love. So even if this one isn't quite the way the quilt police would say to do he will still love it when I get it done.
